It's the infamous and treacherous Bidwell Park swimming hole. Bear Hole is surrounded by huge asphalt-colored basalt rocks with a ton of spots to post up at. Get there early to claim your water or make some friends and share. According to local lore, it used to be called "Bare Hole", where clothing is still optional.
